Abstract： Set in the late Qing and early Republican era， Green River Daydream portrays protagonist Cao Guanghan’s pursuit of national salvation through industrial endeavors，enlightenment advocacy，and violent revolution，seeking collective redemption and self-worth.His journey from initial quest through disorientation to ultimate failure reveals an enlightener’s anguish against historical torrents，yet manifests persistent agency in questing self-worth. As an epochal epitome， Cao Guanghan embodies the Chinese nation’s tortuous trajectory toward modernity.
