Application of In- Situ Axial Compression Method in the Study of Mechanical Properties of Concrete Brick Masonry

Shijiazhuang City Drainage Pipeline Maintenance Center, Shijiazhuang O5Oooo,China) Abstract:Tosolvethe problem thatwhen thecompressvestrengthofconcretesolidbricksand porous bricks islower than MU15,the design value of masonry compresive strength cannot be obtained in accordance with the Code for Design of Masonry Structures,making itdificult tocalculate thecompressiveand seismicbearingcapacitiesof masonry.Takingatranslated building as an example,thisstudyuses theYJK Masonry Structure Design Module forauxiliarycalculation:first,the in-situ axial compresion methodisadoptedtomeasurethe masonycompresivestrengthonsite;then,basedonthecalculateddesign valueof masonrycompresive strength,theabove-mentionedcodeisconsulted todeterminethe matched strengthgradesof bricksand mortar,soas tocompletethecalculationof compresive bearingcapacity;whencalculating theseismic bearing capacity,the measured mortarcompresive strength value isre-entered.Theresults showthat6 measuring areasarerandomly selectedforeachfloorfromthebasementfirstfloortothefourthfloorofthebuilding,andtheobtaineddesignvaluesofmasonry compressvestrengthrange from1.8~2.4MPa;inaddition,theestimated valuesofmortarstrengthallfallwithinthestrength rangeobtainedfrom thecode,and thecalculationof bearingcapacityissuccesfullycompleted.The study indicates thatheinsituaxialcompressionmethodcanefectivelysolvetheproblemofdeterminingthemasonrycompresivestrengthforlow-strength blocks,provide keyparameters fortheYJK MasonryStructure Design Module,ensurethecalculation acuracy,and is suitable for practical engineering testing and appraisal.
