Axial Compressive Performance of Circular End Aluminum Tube Reinforced Concrete Columns with CFRP Strips

Abstract:Circular endaluminumaloytubeconcretecolumns havegooddurabilityand economy,but the strengthand elastic modulus ofaluminumalloyarelow,resultingininsuffcientrestraintonconcrete.Carbonfiberreinforced plastic(CFRP)was proposed to reinforce round end aluminum alloytube concrete columns,andits mechanical properties under axial compressive load werestudied.Atotalof 8specimens were tested,including7CFRPreinforced specimensand1control specimen.We studied the efectsof thewidth,spacing,and numberof layersofCFRP stripsontheaxialcompresion performanceof CREAC underthesameamountof CFRP.The testresultsindicatethatthespecimens mainly experienced bucklingof roundend aluminumaloytubes andfracture failureof CFRP strips;CFRPtapecan significantlyimprove theultimate bearing capacityof specimens,with a maximum increase of 15.3% within the test range;When the amount of CFRP is the same,as the number of CFRP strips decreases,both thebearing capacityand ductity willdecrease;Increasing the width andthickness of CFRP strips can significantly improve ductility.Research findings can provide references for related applications.
