Value of magneticresonance imaging indiagnosis of soft tisue hematomas of the extremitiesYUYuan,WANG Hexiang,XU Wenjian(Department of Radiology,The Afiliated Hospital of Qingdao University,Qingdao 2660o3,China)

[Abstract]ObjectiveTo investigate the valueof magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)inthe diagnosis ofsoft tissue hemato masof thextremities.MethodsAretrospectiveanalysis wasperformedforthe MRImanifestationsandclinicaldataof14patientswith softtissue hematomasoftheextremities,andaliteraturereview wasalsoperformed.ResultsAmong thel4patients,there were 9 male patients and 5 female patients,with an age of 11-80 years.As for the location and distribution of le sions,there werel patients with intramuscular hematomaand 3 patients with subcutaneous hematoma,and there were 1l patientswithhematomainthelowerextremitiesand3patientswithhematomaintheupperextremities.Asforthemorphologyand sizeoflesions,therewere4patientswithspindleshapedlesions,6withoval-shapedlesions,and4withiregularshapesoflesions, and the hematomas showed the largest diameter of 14.4cm and the smallest diameter of 1.0cm ,with a mean diameter of 6.1cm Compared with the skeletal muscle,the main signal components of the 15 lesions in14 patients were short T1 and long T2 signals in 6 patients,mixed T1 and mixed T2 signals in 4 patients,isotropic T1 and long T2 signals in 1 patient,long T1 and short T2 signals in 1 patient,and long T1 and long T2 signals in 2 patients. Contrast-enhanced scan showed ring enhancement and marginal enhancement in 7 patients. Type I time-signal intensity curve(TIC) was observed inside the hematoma,while type I TIC was observedforthewallof thehematomas.ConclusionTherearediverseandcomplexMRIsignalsforsoft tisuehematomasofthe extremities,ndTCofdynamiccontrastenancedmagneticresonanceisof greatsignificanceinthediagnosisofsofttisuematomas of the extremities.
