Design Strategies for Heritage-based Ancient Tree Parks： A case study of the Ancient Tree Cluster at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport

Abstract

Ancient tree parks serve as dual carriers of urban ecosystems and cultural heritage，and research on their design strategies has become increasingly abundant globally.To more effectively promote the construction and development of ancient tree parks，this study takes the ancient tree park at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport as a case study， utilizinga mixed-methodsapproach including field surveys，questionnaires，and interviews to examine key elements such as functional positioning，landscape characteristics，cultural background，and environmental features.The research shows that the ancient tree park should be grounded in ancient tree conservation，with a focus on preserving collective memory and nostalgia by deeply exploring the origins and cultural-historical significance ofancient treesaswellas the local customsand traditionsassociated with them.Based on these findings，comprehensive conservation strategies and multi-dimensional innovative designapproaches for ancient tree parksare proposed，including：tangible reconstruction of ancient tree memories; in-depth exploration and transmission of ancient tree culture and local customs and traditions.
