Effect of Thinning in Plain Ecological Forests on Healthy Growth of Trees
Wang Ying (DaxingDistrict Forestry Station of Beijing,BeijinglO26Oo,China)
AbstractIn order to study the efectof thinning retention densityon the growth of ecologicalforest, six tree species of Populus tomentosa,Sophora japonica,Robinia pseudoacacia,Ulmus pumila,Ulmus pumila‘Jinye’ and Koelreuteria paniculata were taken as the research objects. Four thinning retention densities of 36 trees per 667m2 (CK),27 trees per 667m2(T1),21 trees per 667m2(T2) and 15 trees per 667m2(T3) were set up. The growth andhealth status of tres were investigated after two years ofthining. The resultsshowed as the follwing three aspects.1)The smaller the retention densityof the six tree species, the greater the growth of tree height and DBH. 2)The growth of tree height and DBH of Populus tomentosa,Sophora japonica,Robinia pseudoacacia,Ulmus pumila,Ulmus pumila‘Jinye’were significantly diferent among diferent thinning retention density treatments, and thediferenceof DBH growth was greater than that of treeheight;the height growth of Koelreuteria paniculata was not significantly diferent among diferent thining retention densities, but the DBH growth was significantly different. 3)Reducing the density could efectively control the pests and diseases of Sophora japonica, reduce the dry shoot rate of six tre species, and maintain the good growth of six treespecies. The implementation of thinning can effectively promote the growth of trees and improve the stand quality of plain ecological forests.
