Validation and Reliability testing of the Chinese version of Nurse Intuition Patient Deterioration Scale

Abstract  Objective：To translate the Nurse Intuition Patient Deterioration Scale（NIPDS） into Chinese and examine its reliability and validity.Methods：Following the Brislin translation model，the NIPDS was localized into Chinese through cultural adaptation，finalizing the Chinese version of NIPDS.A convenience sampling method was used to select 251 hospitalized patients from 2 surgical wards and 2 internal medicine wards in a tertiary grade A hospital in Kaifeng city to test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of NIPDS.Results：The Chinese version of NIPDS consists of 9 items，with the total scale score correlating with individual items scores at coefficients ranging from 0.622 to 0.755（P<0.001） and critical ratios between items ranging from 11.251 to 17.609（P<0.001）.Exploratory factor analysis extracted one common factor，cumulative variance contribution rate was 51.224%.Item⁃level content validity index was 0.83⁃1.00；Scale⁃level content validity index was 0.981.The Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.867，and the split⁃half reliability was 0.869.Conclusion：The Chinese version of NIPDS demonstrates good reliability and validity，and can serve as an assessment tool for nurses to identify early deterioration in patient conditions.
