Research progress on clinical application of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation in preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting

Abstract：Postoperative nauseaand vomiting （PONV） is acommon perioperative complication.Studies have shown that transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation（TEAS） is an important means to prevent perioperativePONV.TEAS，as a nonpharmacologicalinterventionmethod，hasganedwidespreadatentionduetoitsexcelenteficacy，minialderse reactions，lowcost，andeasyoperation.Thisarticlereviews theriskfactorsofPONV，thepossblemechanismof TEAS inpreventing PONVand the clinical applicationofTEAS.Theresultsofliterature reviewshowed that PONVwas mainly related topersonal susceptibility，anesthesia and surgery.TEAS mayreduce theoccurrence of PONV by activating he brain-gutaxis，regulating autonomic nerve function，anti-inflammatoryandother mechanisms.However，TEASactivation of thebrain-gut axis is mainly focusedonanimal studies，and clinical studiesarerare.Inthefuture，itisnecessry to further explore thebrain-gutinteractionmechanismofacupointstimulation.IntheclinicalapplicationofTEAS toprevent PONV，Neiguan （PC6），Hegu （LI4），Zusanli （ST36），and Sanyinjiao （SP6）are often selected as stimulating acupoints， and the parameters are set to 2/100Hz .The densitywave，hestimulationintensityisbased onthe'deqi'，tothemaximum toleranceof thepatients.Butthereisstillnouniformstandards fortheacupointcompatibilitymethodand thebest stimulationtiming.Itisstillnecessarytofurtherstudythespecificcompatibilitymethodsofacupointsand thebest stimulation time.
