Preparation of mesocarbon microbeads by heterogeneous nucleation thermal polycondensation of aromatic-rich heavy oil and their electrochemical properties

Abstract:The mesocarbonmicrobeads(MCMBs)wereprepared fromthe aromatic-richheavyoilofarefineryviaheterogeneous nucleation thermalpolycondensation.The efects ofreaction temperature,pressure,timeandamountofaditiveon the yields,morphologyand particlesizedistributionof MCMBs were investigated.Andtheelectrochemical performanceof MCMBs with diferentstructures wascharacterizedas well.Theresults demonstrate that withthe increase of reaction temperature,theextension of reactiontime and the decrease of reaction pressure,the contentof mesophase spheres inthe polycondensation product increases,anda noticeable coalescence between spheres occurs.The average particle size of separated green MCMBs shows agradual increase.With the increaseof theaditionamount ofnucleatingagent,thecontentof mesophase spheres in thepolycondensation product increases significantlywithout coalescence phenomenon.And theaverage particlesizeof green MCMBsfirstlyrisesandthen falls.Under theoptimalreactionconditions,the yieldof greenMCMBs reaches 32.27% ,with the most uniform particle size distribution.The carbonized MCMBs exhibits the first-cycle Coulomb efficiency amountsof 64.1% ,and its specific capacity remains stable at 408.5mA⋅h/g after 100 cycles.
