Adsorption performance of methylene blue on mesoporous activated carbon prepared from by-product soot of oil residue gasification

Abstract:Inorder to further utilize sootafter oilresidueentrainedflowgasification,theby-product soot from oil residue gasification as theraw material was first acid-washed for ash reduction (SCB),and then doped with corn starch and to prepare mesoporous activated carbon (SAC)by KOH activation. Efects of corn starch doping amount on the microstructure of activatedcarbon samples was studied.The adsorption performance of activated carbon was tested bymethylene blue dye wastewater,and theeffectsofmass,concentration,time and temperature were investigated.The results show that the SAC-3 sample ( m (SCB) : m (KOH): m (corn starch)= 1 :4 :0.75) has good pore structure and adsorption performance,with a specific surface area of 606.01m2⋅g-1 , a pore volume of 0.74cm3⋅g-1 and an iodine adsorption value of 951.27mg⋅g-1 . It has a rich pore structure dominated by mesopores and oxygencontaining functional groups ( C=0 二, c-0 ,O—H). The experiments studied,under the conditions ( m=0.04g , (204 C0=200mg⋅L-1 , t=30 min,T )show the best methylene blue adsorption. The clearance rate is 94.54% (2 and the adsorption capacity is 472.71mg⋅g-1 ,which is about two times that of commercially available activated carbon.The results provide theoretical guidance for the resource utilization of soot after oil residue entrained flow gasification.
