Research progress on additive enhanced ammonia and greenhouse gas emission reduction in aerobic composting

Abstract:Aerobic composting can degrade organic mater into stable humus andachieve environmentally friendly and efficient treatment of organic waste.Itis oneof the most efective ways of agricultural waste treatment andutilization.However,low porosityof the compost pileand imbalance of carbon to nitrogenratio can leadto the release of large amounts of carbon and nitrogen into atmosphere as methane ( CH4 ),nitrous oxide( N2O )and ammonia ( NH3 ),which polutes the environment and reduces the quality of compost products.Additives in aerobic composting processis an efective method to promote composting processs,which can improve the qualityof compost andreduce the loss ofcarbonand nitrogen.The mechanism and affcting factors of organic additives,inorganic additives and biological additives on composting processes of agricultural waste are discused,and the advantages and disadvantages with different additives in reducing NH3 and greenhouse gases in composting processes are presented,which can provide helpful reference for the research and application of additives.
