Abstract: Global energy shortageand environmental issues lead to the attention of development of renewable biomass resources.Lignocellulose as one of the most abundant renewable resources on earth displays enormous applicationpotential inthefieldsof bio-refinementand bio-medicine.However,itscomplex structureand thediffiultyof the pretreatment processlimit itsapplicationscope.Thiswork reviews the mechanism of lignocellulose dissolution in ionic liquids (ILs),and categorizes two common methods for separating and extracting lignocellulose basedon lignocellulose componentsand disolution characteristics in ionic liquids.Factors affecting theseparation and extraction of lignocelulose andmethods forthe recovery,reuse and optimization of ionic liquidswere also summarized.Thisreview provides guidance for selecting suitable ionic liquidsand environmental friendly methods for lignocellulose separation,extraction,and recycling.
