Effects of academic anxiety on active and passive procrastination among college students: the mediating effectof mobile phone addiction

【Abstract】Objective To examine the impact of academic anxiety on procrastination among diffrent types of procrastinating college studentsand toanalyze the mediating roleof smartphoneaddiction in therelationship. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among 445 college students using the General Procrastination Scale,Active Procrastination Scale,Academic AnxietyScale,and Smartphone Addiction Proneness Scale.Results (204号 ① There were statistically significant diferences between different types of procrastinating college students in academic anxiety ( l=⋅ -3.305, P <0.01),smartphone addiction ( t= -2.231, P <0.05),and academic procrastination 0 t= -4.753, P <0.001). ② The relationship between academic anxiety and academic procrastination varied by procrastination type: among active procrastinators,the correlation was not significant, whereas among passive procrastinators, there was a significant positive correlation (r=0.164 , P <0.01). ③ For passive procrastinators, academic anxiety indirectly predicted academic procrastination through smartphone addiction, with smartphone addiction playing a fully mediating role.ConclusionThe impact of academic anxiety on academic procrastination is more pronounced among passive procrastinators,and smartphone addiction plays a fully mediating role in this relationship.
