【Abstract】 Objective To examine the relationship between father involvement and depression on middle school students,as wellas therolesof self-esteemand emotionalresilience in thisasociation.MethodsA total of 532 middle school students were assessed using the Chinese Short Form of the Father Involvement Scale,the Adolescent Self-Esteem Scale,theAdolescentEmotional ResilienceQuestionnaire,and theCenter forEpidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D). Results ① Father involvement showed a significant negative correlation with depressive symptoms (r=-0.51, P<0.01 ) and significant positive correlations with self-esteem (r=0.56, P <0.01) and emotional resilience ( r=0.37 ,P<0.01). ② Self-esteem mediated the relationship between father involvement and depressive symptoms( β: -0.17,P<0.05). ③ Emotional resilience moderated the direct path fromfather involvement to depressive symptoms.Higherlevels of emotionalresilience strengthenedthe protective effectoffatherinvolvement againstdepressivesymptoms.Conclusion Father involvement notonly directly predicts lowerdepressvesymptoms but also indirectly influences depression through self-esteem.Additionally,emotional resilience moderates the relationshipbetween father involvement and depressive symptoms.
