ABSTRACT:To investigate theadsorption characteristics chromium(Cr) byaged polyethylene(PE) polyvinyl chloride (PVC)microplastics in typical paddy soils East area,this study systematically analyzed the adsorption behavior Cr by virgin acid-aged microplastics in yellow red soils. Characterization analysis using scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),X-ray photoelectronspectroscopy(XPS), Brunauer-Emmet-Teller(BET)revealed that the aging processignificantly increased surface roughness,specific surface area, oxygen-containing functional group content microplastics.Adsorption kinetics isotherm results indicated that both virgin aged microplastics adsorbed Cr primarily through multilayer chemisorption,with adsorption capacity increasing significantly with microplastic dose.Theadsorption characterization aged microplastics varied indiferent soil types. In yellow soil, aging process enhanced Cr adsorption by both PE PVC. By contrast,aging process improved PVC adsorption capacity but reduced PE adsorption capacity for Cr in red soil. This study demonstrated that Cr adsorption byaged microplastics depended onsoil types,microplastic types dose,providingcritical scientific insights into the interaction mechanisms between microplastics Cr in agricultural soils.
