Abstract:To experimentally investigate thein vitro inhibitory zonesizeand minimum inhibitory concentrationof roseessentialoilanditsantimicrobialactiveingredientscitronelol, geraniolandnerolagainstthreeaquatic pathogens, namelyVibrioparahaemolyticus(V.parahaemolyticu),Streptococcus iniae(S.iniae),ndVibrio harveyi(V. harveyi).Theinhibitoryefectsofroseesentialoilanditsntibacterialcomponents(citronellol, geraniolandnerol) onthreeaquaticpathogenic bacteria(V.parahaemolyticu,S.iniae andV.harveyi)was tested. The diameter of the inhibitionzonesofroseesentialoilanditsantibacterialagents wasdeterminedusingthemethodsof punch-holeand cross-validation.Theminimuminhibitoryconcentrations(MIC)ofroseessentialoiland itsantibacterialcompounds weredeterminedusing the96-wellplate microdilution method. Finally, the fractionalinhibitoryconcentration(FIC) indicesof thethreeactive ingredients weredeterminedusing the micro-broth chessoard cross-validationmethod.The resultsdemonstrated thatrose esentialoilanditsactiveingredientsexhibitedantibacterialactivityagainst V. parahaemolyticu,S.iniaeand V.harveyi.Among these, citroneloldemonstrated the most pronounced antibacterial efect. The threerose essentialoilactive ingredients were tested incombinationwithoneanothertoevaluate their joint antibacterial efect, withthefindingsindicating thatthecombinedefectwaseitherirrelevantorantagonistic.Rose essentialoilanditsactive ingredients have been demonstrated toexertnotablebacteriostatic efectsonaquatic pathogenicbacteria. However, the simultaneousapplication of itsactiveingredients ina clinical setting isnot recommended.Thisstudywillprovideatheoreticalfoundationforthefutureapplicationof theantibacterialeffectsof rose essential oil in aquaculture.
