InSAR surface deformation of historical reclaimed coastline on Xiamen Island and its impacton relativesea level

Abstract:Accurateasessmentofthetreatposedbyelativesea-lvelsetocoastalcitiesurgentlyrequireshigresolutiondataon landverticaldeformatnHoweer,iareaswithalnghistoryofandamatio,tesurfacedefomatioateisfenassudtobe constant,negletingthespatiotempralvarabiltyofdeformatoncausedbysoilconsodationandumanactivities.Tissudyusing XiamenIslandasanexample,obtainedahigh-resolutionsurfacedeformationfieldusing Sentinel-1SAR images from2015—2019 throughPS-InSARtechnologyandestablishedadecaymodelofsurfacedeformationversusreclamationtime.Theresultsshowthat: (1)SurfacedformationinteclaidareasofXiamenIandexhbitssigniicantspatialheterogeeitywithsignicantsubsidence exceeding 5mm/a still occurring in areas such as the western shore of Yuandang Lake and Gaoqi Airport; (2) The deformation rate in reclaimedareasisnegativelycorelatedwithrlamationtime,typicallstabilizingapproximately2Oyearsafterlandreclamationis completed;(3)Aftercorrctingforlandverticalmovement,therelativesea-levelriserateintheXiamenareaisapproximately 4.7mma Predictions to 21oo indicate that although tectonic uplift will cause the land to rise byapproximately 7.8cm overall,the extreme high waterlevelscausedbyrelativesea-lvelisestilposeaserious treat totherclaimedcoastines.Thisstudyemphasizestenedto considerthe impactofhigh-resolutionsurface deformationand its spatiotemporal dynamics incoastalcityriskasessment.
