Temporal and spatial distribution characteristics of magnetic minerals in tidal flat sediments of Jiulong River Mouth in Fujian Province and their sedimentary significance

Abstract:Becauseofthecomplexhydrodyamicconditions,itisdificulttodentifytheelaboratechracteristicsofsedientary differentiationinesarytidalfat.Teconstruconofindexsysteoftidalfatsedmentdifereiionistebasiclnktoentifythe sedimentmicrofacisadtoeveal teevolutioarytredoftidalfatIntisstudyresdimentcors wreotaiedfrothidalin the Jiulong RiverMouth inthreesedimentaryenvironments: upper tidalfat,middletidalfatandlower tidalfat,and their 137Cs dating analysis,grainsizeanalysis,androom-temperaturemagneticmeasurementswereonductedThisstudyinvestigatesthedistribution characteristicsofmagneticmineralsintidalfatsedimentsandtheiridicativesignifcanceforsdimentarydynamics.Theesultsshowed that:(1)ThetidalfatintheeastofHumaozhouIslandpresentshighdepositionrate.Thesedimentationrateofupper-midletidalfat is higherthanthatoflowertidalfatwhichismainlyinfuencedytidalwavedyamicsandvegetationpromotingsiltation.Finegrained magneticmineralsSPandSDgansareenrichedinupper-midletidalfat,whilecoarse-grainedmagneticmineralsMDand PSDgrais areeichdinlowetidalfatevealingthatmageticminralsofthetidalfatarecontrolledbyhydrodyamicsparation. The high valuesof SIRM/χ and S-20mt appear in the magnetic characteristicsof the sediments intheupper-middle tidal flat,reflecting the existence of early diagenesis. (3) There is a highly significant difference in χfd% χARM/χ and χARM/SIRM in sediments of the tidal flat. We thusproposedthatthecombinationofthesemagneticparameterscanbeusedaspotentialindicatorstodistiguishsedimentaryfacies betwenupper-middle tdalfatsandlower tidalfatinteJiulongRivermouth.Thisstudyprovidesasdimentologicalindexreference forthestudyoftidalfatevolutionandtheidentificationoftidalfatsedimentarymicrofaciesonacentury-to-decadescale.
