How does the Application of Artificial Intelligence Technology Affect the Innovation Level of Manufacturing Enterprises ?

Abstract: With the deepening of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, artificial intelligence,as a key technological driving force,is increasingly exerting a prominent impact on the innovation level of manufacturing enterprises. Based on data from China's listed manufacturing enterprises from 2010 to 2023,this study empirically examines the impact of artificial intelligence on the inovation level of manufacturing enterprises and its underlying mechanisms from a firm-level perspective. The research finds that the application of artificial inteligence technology significantly enhances corporate innovation,and this conclusion remains robust after a series of rigorous tests. Mechanism analysis indicates that artificial intelligence promotes innovation primarily by helping enterprises reduce costs,optimize human capital structure,and improve factor allocation. Further heterogeneity analysis reveals that the innovation-promoting effect of artificial intelligence is more pronounced in nonhigh-tech enterprises,enterprises in coastal regions,and state-owned enterprises. This study provides a micro-level perspective on how artificial inteligence drives innovation in manufacturing enterprises and offers policy insights and practical references for governments and enterprises to enhance their innovation capabilities.
