Developing a Shared Mechanism for University Oceanographic Research Fleets : Insights From the Scientific Research and Talent Cultivation Practice Supported by the Vessel ZHONG SHAN DA XUE

Abstract:Sincethe18th National Congressof theCommunist PartyofChina,therapidadvancementofthe China’s maritime undertakings,coupled with strong emphasis on accelerating the development of China into aleading maritime power, has driven a growing number of universities to independently construct and operate oceanographic research vessels.This emerging trend not only expands the nation’scapacity for marine scientific exploration,but also createsnewavenuesforcultivatinghigh-leveltalent inmarine-related fields.Inthiscontext,acriticalchallenge for promoting high-qualityeducational development inthe informationage liesinhowtoeffectively integrate thestrengths of marine-orienteduniversities,particularlytheiradvanced research platformsanddisciplinary resources,inorder to foster broader opennessand sharing of educational assts,and to explore new pathways toward the modernization of highereducation.Anchored in the practical experience of scientific research and talent training on the comprehensive oceanographic research and training vessel ZHONG SHAN DA XUE,this project seeks to provide innovative perspectives and feasible strategies forthe Ministryof Education to establish a national sharing mechanism for marine researchvessels.Additionally,itaims tooffer valuable insights forenhancing frontier scientificresearch inmarine studies and for nurturing top-tier, innovative talent within the higher education system.
