Preparation of Al-based Multi-component LDHs Composites and Studyon TheirAdsorptionPerformanceforCongo Red

Abstract:[Purposes] To prepare aluminum-based layered double metal hydroxides (LDHs) via hydrothermal forsynthesis,characterize their structures and morphologies,and investigate theiradsorption performanceandinfluencing factors for Congo red.[Methods] Three LDHs with diferent compositions (Cu-Al-LDHs,Al-MgNi-LDHs,and Cu-Al-Mg-Ni-LDHs) were synthesized using copper nitrate, aluminum nitrate, magnesium nitrate,nickel nitrate,and triethanolamine as raw materials.Characterization was performed through XRD, SEM,and FTIR.Adsorption performance was evaluated by adjusting the initial Congo red concentration,adsorption time, temperature,pH,and adsorbent dosage. [Findings] The maximum adsorption capacities were 568.1 mg/g, 656.4 mg/g,and 1245.9 mg/g for the three materials,respectively. Adsorption kinetics fitting results showed that the adsorption processes of allthree materials followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model;the adsorption isotherms better conformed to the Langmuir isothermal adsorption model; the adsorption process was spontaneous and endothermic.After three cycles,the removal rates remained above 60 % , with the main adsorption mechanism being ion exchange.[Conclusions] The prepared Cu-Al-LDHs,AlMg-Ni-LDHs,and Cu-Al-Mg-Ni-LDHs conformed to the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm model for Congo red adsorption. The process was spontaneous and endothermic,primarily governed by ion exchange,and the materials maintained a removal rate above 60% over three cycles of use.
