An Empirical Study on Teachers’Teaching Academic Level in Normal Universities from Perspective of Educational Power Construction

Abstract:Teacher education connects the“cornerstone”of basic educationand the“leading force”of higher education in theconstructionof a strong country in education.Its high-quality development is directlyrelated to theimplementation and effectiveness of the Teacher Force Strengthening Plan. The construction of a strong education sector endows teachers in normal universities with special responsibilities and missions.As demonstratorsand leaders in teaching,theyshould enhance their professional profesionalism and become poners of scholarly teaching practice.This paper adopts acombinationofquestionnaire surveyand field interview todevelopa questionnaire covering five dimensions:concepts,knowledge,teaching research,achievement communication,and institutions and resources.Itconducts an empirical investigationinto the teaching academic level of facultyin undergraduate normal universities acrossGansu Province,revealing the actual state anddiferentialcharacteristics of teaching academiccapacity amongfacultyin northwest China.The findings indicate thatthe overalevel of teaching academic researchis nothigh and the development ofeach dimension is unbalanced.Facultycharacteristics (gender,education,age,teaching years),teaching load,and institutional factors have significant impacts.Therefore,inresponse to the new tasks and requirements of building astrong countryin education,facultyin northwest normaluniversities should lead theirown development through scholarly teaching,improve thequality of normal school students,and facilitate the high-quality development of teacher education.
