A Study on Wu Yu's Citations from the Book of Songs in Rhyme Supplement

Abstract：Wu Yu’s Rhyme Supplement is the first monograph in the history of Chinese phonology to study“ancient rhymes，”citinga largenumberof ancient poems and prose as evidence forits division of rhyme categories.This article providesacomprehensive overviewof its citations from the Bookof Songs，arguing that its direct purpose is to compare rhyming patterns and trace textual variations.The study explores thecharacteristics of the actual rhyming practices atthe time asreflectedinthe ancient sounds itreconstructs andcorrects textual erors initsquotations from the Bookof Songs.
