AbstractTo investigate theinfluenceofcurvatureradiusontheanti-overturning stabilityof single-columnpiercurvedbridges, thisstudytakesahighwaycurvedbridgewithsingle-columnpiersasacasestudy.Theanti-overturningperformanceisanalyzed basedonbothasimplified modelusingthearea momenttheoryandthecurentbridge designcode.Using thearea moment theory, withthemostufavorableovertuingaxisasthecondition,theself-weightanti-overtuingsafetyfactorsunderdiferentcuvature radiiarecalculated.Theresultsindicatethatthesafetyfactorfirstdecreasesandthen increasesasthecurvatureradiusincreases. Concurently,aseriesoffiniteelementmodelsareestablishedaccordingtothedesigncodetocalculatethebearingreactinsand anti-overtumingstabilitycoeficientsunderecentricloading.Theresultsshowhattheiskofnegativebearingreactionsrisesasthe curvatureadusincreases,whilethentovertuingsabilityoeficientgraduallydecreasesadevenuallylevelsoffAcoparison revealsdiserepanciesinthetrendsbtainedbythtwomethods,primarilyduetoteirdiferentprinciplesforselectingthoveruing axis.
