Research Progress of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Protecting Schwann Cells from Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy by Inhibiting Inflammatory Responses

AbstractDiabetic peripheral neuropathy（DPN）isthe main cause of lower extremityamputation and disabling neuropathic pain. Schwann cells（SCs）are the main glial cels in the peripheral nervous system andplay a crucial role in the repair after nerve injury. Inflammatory response damage to SCsisan important factor in'the occurrence and development of DPN.At present，the treatment of DPN has not yet achieved the desired fect.Traditional Chinese medicine（TCM）has achieved beter clinical results in the prevention and treatment of DPN with its unique advantages of multi-targets and multi-pathways.TCM efctively inhibitstheapoptosisof SCsandimprovesneurological function byregulating thenuclear factor kappa-B（NF- κB ）signaling pathway and the Nod-like receptor protein 3（NLRP3）inflammasome. This papersummarizes the intervention of TCM in inhibiting inflammatory response and intervening in the apop tosis of SCs from the aspects of single traditional Chinese medicinal and compound active ingredients， witha prospect of providing a reference for the integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine prevention and treatment strategiesof DPN.Thereare 41 references.
