LU Wenliang's Experience in Treating Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease of Spleen Deficiency and Damp-heat Type Based on“Treating the Middle Jiao as a Balance”

Abstract Gastroesophageal reflux disease（GERD） is one of the common digestive system diseases characterized bytypical symptoms such as heartburnand reflux.Professor LV Wenliang believes that the pathogenesis of thisdiseaseis primarilycharacterizedby damp-heat obstructing the middle Jiao，with spleenandstomach deficiencyas the root cause，and liver stagnation andearth dampness as the secondary factors.Thisdisease is caused by damp-heat，food accumulation，qi stagnation，phlegm-dampness obstruction in the middle Jiao， loss of the ascending and descending functions，imbalance in the middle Jiao，and the upward movement of turbidqi rebelingupwardsinto the esophagus.In termsof treatment，based on the principleof“treating themiddle Jiao asa balance”，thephysiological characteristics of the mutual dependence and complementarity of the spleen and stomach are always taken intoaccount.Thepriorityisto clear heatand eliminate dampness，with the modified formulaof Lianpu Decoction（连朴饮）.At the same time，itis combined with methodssuch as tonifying qi andstrengthening thespleen，aiding digestion and eliminating food stagnation，soothing the liverand harmonizing thestomach，applying medicinals with both pungent and bitterflavors，cold and warm properties，attacking and tonifying simultaneously，and regulating the liver and stomach in harmony.One test case isattached.
