Abstract Objective To conduct a scoping review of research related to the involvement of patient opinion leaders (POLs) in patient health management through social media.MethodsA systematic search was conducted in domestic andinternational databases for relevant studies,withthesearch period spanning fromthe inceptionof thedatabases to June 27,2024.The included literature was analyzed in terms of the types of POLs identities,types of information support provided,role characteristics,scopeand content of interventions,and evaluation indicators.ResultsA total of 35 studies wereultimately included in the analysis.The types of POLs'identities included healthcare professionals and non-healthcare professionals.The types of information support provided through social media encompassed factual information,opinion,personal stories,emotional,online interaction,andtangiblesupport,amongothers.Therolecharacteristics included profesional expertiseand experience,information dissemination skills,broad influenceinthe field, as wellas initiative anda sense of responsibility.POLs participated in patient health management through means such as health information dissmination,health risk prevention and control,disease management,and psychological and emotional support.Evaluationindicators included both process indicators andoutcomeindicators.ConclusionItis recommended to match POLs diferentially to precisely align with patientshealth management needs,leverage the advantages of dual-subject POLs tocollaborativelyempower patient healthmanagement,and reasonablyselect evaluation indicators to comprehensively assess the effectiveness of POLs health management.
