Abstract ObjectiveTo establish a 5- minute in—hospital emergency response system in a large general hospital to ensure timely emergency treatment and life support.MethodsStarting from a holistic and comprehensive system perspective，a 5- minute in-hospital emergency response system was constructed in a large general hospital. This system included the establishment of an emergency management team，organizationof personnel training，implementation of a grid-based layout，centralized managementof emergencymedications，equipment，and devices throughoutthe hospital，establishment of an emergency broadcasting and notification system，clarificationof theemergency response responsibilities andauthoritiesof staff，determinationof thepositioning of emergency teamsduring rescues，standardizationof records for emergency incidents and drils，and regular analysis and improvement.ResultsSince the implementation of the 5- minute in-hospital emergency response system： in 126 emergency response drills，the average arrival time of the emergency team was 2.43 minutes，with a 100% arrival rate within 5 minutes; in 262 actual emergency incidents， the average arrival time of the emergency team was 2.31 minutes，also with a 100% arrival rate within 5mi nutes.Additionally，improvements were observed in the success rate of spontaneous breathing and circulation recovery after cardiopulmonary resuscitation，the mortality rate of patients in the emergency resuscitation room，and the completeness rate of medications and equipment in the rescue carts.ConclusionThe establishment of a 5一minute in一 hospital emergency response system can enhance the eficiencyof emergency treatment for high一risk unexpected incidents and the quality of medical services in large general hospitals.
