Abstract:Academic competition in higher education has become increasingly intense, with“involution” emerging as a common living dilemma faced by young students. The debate between meritocracy (elite ideology) and educational equity continues to spark public discusson. The“Zhu Scholarship Incident,”asarepresentative public opinion case, exemplifies young students’digital activismon social media, which centers onanti-meritocracy and identity politics. This study finds that young students’anti-meritocracyactivism manifestsasadialectical process of “identity construction-identity deconstruction-identity reconstruction.”They target“propaganda methods,”“evaluation systems,”and“super high schools”as discursiveobjects, deconstructingthe power-ethical relationship behind the“denominator”discourse, and ultimately thusachievinga creative reconstructionof the “ordinary person”identity narative. This research provides a valuable reference for understanding public opinion incidents among young students and ofers insights into aleviating the accumulation of negative sentiments in discussions on educational equity.
