Analysis of the Coupled Coordination between Ecological Environment and Urbanization in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Urban Agglomeration

Abstract: [Purposes] Through quantitative assessment and analysis,this study aims to investigate the interaction between urbanization and the ecological environment and their degree of coupling coordination. [Methods] Using MODIS data and nightime light data from 20oO to 2020,and based on methods proposed by previous researchers for the remote sensing ecological index,comprehensive nightime light index,and coupled coordination degree model, this study analyzes the coupled coordination between ecological environment and urbanization in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration.[Findings] The results show that: ① From 20oO to 2O20,the ecological environment index of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration showed a fluctuating increase,indicating a general improving trend in ecological quality. ② From2OOO to 2O2O,the urbanization level of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration continued to increase,with Tianjin and Langfang experiencing the fastest urbanization,while Zhangijiakou and Chengde had the slowest urbanization. ③From2000 to 2020, the coupled coordination degree between ecological environment and urbanization in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration generally showed a steady increase. Tianjin,Langfang,Beijing,and Tangshan had the highest degree of coupled coordination, while Zhangjiakou and Chengde had the lowest,remaining at amild level by 2020. [Conclusions] The results of this study can provide ascientific basis and reference for ecological environmental protection and urbanization development in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration.
