Study on the Cause of Foundation Disease and Reinforcement Effect of a Residential Building

Abstract: [Purposes] The purpose of this study is to identifythe causes of cracks in a residential building ofan old communityand to control the foundation settlement.[Methods] By combining field investigation with foundation disease survey,the main causes of the foundation settlement were identified. The pit static pressure pipe pile reinforcement scheme was selected,and detailed requirements were specifiedfrom design to construction.[Findings] Comparative analysis of monitoring data before and after the construction of the static pressure pipe piles showed that the cumulative foundation settlement exhibited an increasing trend before the work.Afterthe work,the cumulative setlement increment of the unreinforced Unit 2 was 1O-15 mm,while the value of the cumulative setlement for the reinforced Unit 1 showed litle change.The pit static pressure pipe pile method effectively controlled the foundation settlement.[Conclusions] At the collapsible loess site,the compaction effect of the original soil compaction piles was poor,leaving the foundation still collapsible.Coupled with leakage from the building's underground pipeline system,which caused the foundation soil layer to become submerged and saturated,was the main reason for the uneven setlement of the foundation and the cracks in the superstructure.The research findings can provide an engineering reference for treating foundation diseases in similar collapsible loess sites.
