Deformation Control Analysis of Supporting Structure for Deep Foundation Pit Excavation Adjacent to River

Abstract: [Purposes] Aiming at the deformation and control of the foundation pit supporting structure under the coupled effects of soil unloading due to excavation and surcharge loading from existing structures adjacent to a river,this study investigates the deformation control of the supporting structure for deep foundation pit excavation near a river,based on the Shunde North Road Tunnel foundation pit support project in Shunde District, Guangdong Province.[Methods] Key technical parameters,including the displacement of the foundation pit retaining structure,vertical displacement of soldier piles,and axial force in the supports,were monitored through field instrumentation. The influences of excavationinduced unloading and asymmetric loading on the deformation and stability of the deep foundation pit were studied.[Findings] The results show that the excavation unloading effect and the asymmetric load effect significantly influence the deformation and stability of the foundation pit and its supporting structure.The cumulative horizontal and vertical displacements of the retaining structure exhibit approximately "L"-shaped and inverted "L"-shaped distributions,respectively. The maximum deep horizontal displacement of the retaining wall occurs at a depth of about 4m .The settlement susceptibility of the surrounding ground surface is more significantly affcted by the excavation compared to the existing surrounding structures.[Conclusions] The combined support system utilizing "cast-in-place piles + highpressure jet grouting piles" along with steel pipe supports proves more effective in controling the deformation of the deep foundation pit supporting structure.
