Life Cycle Environmental Impact Assessment of Plate Heat Exchanger

Abstract: [Purposes] This paper conducts the fullife cycle environmental effects of plate heat exchangers,which are extensively used in vapor-compresson refrigeration cycles.It aims to open up sustainable development paths for their design,manufacturing,and application to reduce energy consumption and environmental pollution.[Methods] Based on the whole life cycle assessment method,this paper constructs an evaluation model covering 16 indicators such as climate change potential value,and uses eFootprint software and the CLCD database to evaluate the whole life cycle environmental effect of XXO1 plate heat exchanger produced by a company.[Findings] The results show that the abiotic resource consumption and human toxicity value of the plate heat exchanger are 8.0Ox1o-² kg Sb eq and 1.00 ×10-2 CTUh, respectively,which are the indicators contributing the least to the environmental impacts in the whole life cycle of the plate heat exchanger; the climate change potential value is 2.65×1O³ kg CO eq, the disposable energy consumption potential value is 3.41 × 104 MJ,and the water resource consumption is 1.31× (204号 (2号 104kg ,which are significantly higher than other indicators.This indicates that climate change,energy consumption, and water resource consumption constitute the primary environmental damage pathways. [Conclusions] Improving production methods to reduce energy and water resource consumption throughout theentire life cycle of plate heat exchangers is crucial for achieving green and sustainable development.
