Upgrade and Precision Control of Kingpost Crane on Drilling Platform

Abstract: Kingpost cranes, widely used as lifting equipment on offshore platforms,offer advantages such as operational simplicity,compact structure,easeof maintenance,broad working range,heavy-load capacity,and high safety.Precision control in the design,fabrication,and instalation of kingposts is critical to ensure crane safety. This paper presents acase study of upgrading three kingpost-type cranes (port,starboard,and stemn)on the HYSY 935 jack-updriling platform. It summarizes key processes for structural strength design,fabrication,and precision control during installation, providing references for similar retrofit projects.
