Abstract：Thedance notationtranscribedinDunhuang manuscriptP.3719Visaloosecopyrecordedbythelocalliterati for thepurposeof playingadrinking gameduring banquets.Thetextof themanuscriptis different from similarDunhuang documents inthatitcombines the notation forboth musicanddance，andcontains cue wordsandrepresentationalcharacters ina piecewisestructure.Inadition，whereas mostotherDunhuangmusicscores generalylisthepitchesusingbigandsmallcharac ters，inP.3719Vlrgecharactersareusedtolocate temusicalpitches，whilesmallchracters indicatethestepsofthedance.The authorofthis manuscriptcanbe identified has having come fromthe midle orlower clas.Byusing textualresearch methods andthe dual-evidence method，andbycombiningrelevantJapanesedocuments introducedduring the Tangdynastysuchas PamphletofImportantRecordsandCopyofLesons，this paperpresentsatextualtudyontheconnotationsofseveralcharacterssuch as“復”，"幺”，and“ ".This research concludes that“復"symbolized the repetition of wurong 舞容（the facial expressions and physicalgesturesusedduringadance）;that“幺”isasupplementarynoteaddedatalatertime，andthatitscorrectformhould be“△";andthat“”isa simplified form ofthe dance notation character“八".Meanwhile，the notational symbol “ ⊐ ”，which is foundatvariouspoints troughoutthetext，standsforthedividingpointbetweentwoparts：thepartprecedinga“”refers to the ulesforwuronginthefre-formsectionsof themusic，whilethepartfollowing is the mainbodyofthe song.Finalythe tempos usedindiferent songs are either“twoslowbeats followed by three quickbeats”or“threeslow beats followed bythreequick beats."
