Abstract：Dunhuang manuscriptP.4071 recordsanaccountof the Sogdian immigrant Kang Zunpracticing astrology for a client.Byreconstructing the processused to produce the textsand images associated with theEleven Luminaries basedon the ephemerisandastrological documentsofthe1Othcentury，thispaperhascome tothree mainconclusionsabouttheastrological practicedescribedinthemanuseript.Firstly，P.4071reliesprimarilyontheIndiannakshatratodeterminethepositionof the moon，and thesentenceTaiyinzaiyi太阴在翌（Themoon inthewings）atthebeginningofthetextwaslikelyborrowed from theMahasamnipataSutra.Secondly，theclientrequestingthedivinationinthepartof thetextrelatedtotianyunxingnian天运行 年（one solaryear）is thesamepersonwhosebirthdateisrecordedatebeginningofthetext，whichledtotheoveremphasis of therelationshipsintheElevenLuminariesoftheBirthChart，andinturtoseveralinconsistenciesbetweenplanetarymotions andactualcelestialevents.FinalltheidentityofthepersonaskingforthedivinationcanbeinferedashavingbeenCaoYangong， the fifth governor of the Gui-yi-jun Regime in Dunhuang.
