Abstract:To studythediferences insalt toleranceamongdiferentash(Fraxinuschinensis)clones insalineandalkaline land,thisstudyusesgraftedseedlingsoffiveclones (EuropeanAsh-ompact,EuropeanAsh-Open-62,-6,and Yuanla 2)as test materials.This study simulates salt stressenvironments with NaCl solutions at diferent concentrations [1‰ (2号 (CK), 3‰ , 5‰ and 7‰ ],determines growth indicators,physiological and biochemical indicators and evaluates their salt tolerance.Theresultsshow that withtheincreasing NaClconcentration,therelative growthrateof all fiveashclones decreasesgradually,while biomass increases initiallybut decreasessubsequently.Theosmoticregulating substances like soluble sugar,solubleproteinandfreeprolinegraduallyinerease.Thechlorophyllcontent first increasesand thendecreases, reaching the maximum at 3‰ NaCl.The activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) increases gradually,while the activity of peroxidase (POD) first increases and then decreases. The Na+/K+ ratio increases extremely significantly.With the extension of stresstime,thecontents ofosmoticregulating substances—soluble sugars,soluble proteinsand free proline—increase significantly (P<0.05) .Theactivities of SOD and POD enzymes first increase and then decrease,while the chlorophyll contentdecreases extremelysignificantly.Compared totheother fourashclones,clone12-76exhibitsthehighestrelative sedling height growthrate,relative grounddiameter increaserate,totalbiomass,andactivitiesofSODandPODenzymes, andthelwest malondialdehyde (MDA)content.Acomprehensiveevaluationof the growth,physiological,andbiochemical indicators of different F. chinensis clones using the fuzzy membership function method shows that the salt tolerance ranking is: 12-76> Yuanla 2> European Ash Compact > European Ash - Open > Clone 12-62.
