Research on silicone rubber-assisted pressure molding process for composite box-type air duct

Abstract:Foracertain typeofaircraft,the frontductofthe lubrication system isacomposite box-typestructure.During theforming process,acombinationmoldtoolconsistingof metal mandrelsand siliconerubbercore molds was utilized.After curing,excessive expansionofthe silicone rubbercore molds caused significant gaps inthe assemblyseams betweenthe upper cover plate and metal side molds.This resulted intheextrusionof prepreg materials through thegaps betweentheupper coverplateand metal side molds,therebyafecting thequalityoftheformedpart.UsingABAQUSsoftware,simulations were conducted on the expansion behaviorofthesilicone rubber core molds and the pressures inducedduring the forming process.Theresults showed thatbyreducing the silicone thicknessfrom 12.3 mmto11 mm,the surface contact pressure decreased from 0.6~1.8 MPa to 0.25~0.7 MPa,eliminating defects caused by excessive expansion of the silicone rubber core molds and improving the overall quality of the part.
