Research on the application of peripheral nerve invasion and imaging examination in preoperative prediction of rectal cancer

Abstract：Rectalcancerisoneof the mostcommon malignant tumorsof thedigestivetract worldwide，and its incidence andmortalityrateshavebeenontheriseinrecentyears.Asanindependentprognosticfactorofrectalcancer，timelyand accurate diagnosis of perineuralnerve invasionisof great helpforpersonalizedtreatmentandearlyinterventionof patients. As the most commonlyused non-invasive examination methodforrectal cancer，imaging has broad potential application prospects forpreoperative predictionof perineural nerveinvasionofrectalcancer.Thisarticlereviews theresearchprogress of imaging inthepreoperativepredictionof perineural nerveinvasionofrectalcancerbasedondomesticand foreign research literature inrecent years.Literaturereview findings indicatethat conventional imaging examinations canonly indirectlysuggstthe presenceof perineural nerve invasion（PNI）inrectal cancer.Quantitativeandsemi-quantitative parameter analyses based onconventional imaging can improve theaccuracy of preoperative prediction ofrectal cancer PNI to a certain extent.Radiomics models based on computed tomography（CT）and magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） demonstratea favorable predictive value for preoperative assessmentof perineural nerve invasion inrectal cancer.
