Effects of different cutting periods and growth hormones on the propagation of Punica granatum hardwood cuttings

AbstractTo improve thesurvival rate and the growth quality of Punica granatum cutings，the rough branches of robustPunica granatum plants growing 3to 5years oldonthesunnyside were usedascuttings，at three different cutting periods （February 19th）， （March 15th）， （April 4th）]， two kinds of growth hormones [strong rooting agent （concentrations of 2.5，4.0 and 10.0g/L respectively，naphthalene acetic acid （NAA， concentrations of 50 and 200mg/L respectively） were applied to the hard branches of pomegranates.The number and length of new shoots ofthecuttings， the number and lengthof roots ofthecuttings，and thesurvivalrateof thecutings were measured.Theresults showed that growth hormone treatment had significant efects onthe number and length ofnew shoots，the numberand length of roots of cuttings and the survival rate of cutings. In A period， the number and length of new cuttings treated with 200 mg/L NAA for 5 min showed good performance. In period， the cuttings soaked with 50 mg/L NAA for 12 h could increase the number and length of roots.In period， 50mg/L NAA soaked cuttings for 12 h had obvious advantages in promoting the survival rate of cuttings.In conclusion， the application of 50mg/L NAA soaking for 12 hwasbeneficial to increase the numberofroots，rotlengthandsurvival rate ofPunicagranatum cutings，andthecuttings on March 15th and April 4th had better results.This paper provides a theoretical basis for the popularizationand application of hard branch cutting propagation of Punica granatum.
