Effects of self-control on work engagement of primaryand secondary school teachers: the mediating role of growth mindset

【Abstract】Objective To explore the influence of self-control on the work engagement of primary and secondary school teachers,as wellas to investigate the mediating roleof growth mindset inthis relationship. Methods A survey and evaluation were conducted on 5O teachers from 1O primary and secondary schools in Guizhou Province using the Self-Control Scale (SCS),the Mindset Inventory Scale (MIS),and the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES).Results ① The self-control of teachers is positively correlated with growth mindset r= 0.44, P<0.001 );self-control is positively correlated with work engagement (r=0.37, P <0.001);and growth mindset is positively correlated with work engagement (r=0.36,P<0.001). ② The growth mindset played a significant mediating roleinthe impactofself-controlonthe work engagementof primaryand secondary schol teachers,indicating that self-control indirectly and positively influences teachers'work engagement through the mechanismofagrowth mindset.ConclusionSelf-control hasa direct positive impactonthe work engagement of primary and secondary school teachers.Additionalyitemphasizes thatself-control indirectly exertsapositiveinfluenceonthework engagement of primary and secondary school teachers through a growth mindset.
