The Trend of International Standards in Oil and Gas Industries-A Case Study ofISO 13628-1

Abstract：[Objective]Inoilandgasindustries，thecompetitionforthedominanceininternationalstandardsisintensifying This paper presents measures to address the challenges posed by the latest trends in ISO/TC67andAPIonthe adoption of international standards.[Methods]Ananalysis isconductedontherelationship between theISO13628 standardsand the API17 standards forsubsea production systems.A case study of the changes in therevised version of ISO 13628-1 is given，including thetechnical equivalence withthecorresponding API17Aand the implicationsof harmonizationof Chinese and ISO standards.[Results]The findings reveal that API actively implements the internationalization strategyof the US government anditself，and while protecting itscopyright，its infuenceonISOis gradualldeepening.Conclusion] InChina’soilandgas industry，thereisanimperativeneedtoadjust thestrategyforadopting international standards.Itis proposed that the adoption of standards folow the format of“national standardization technical guidance documents on specification.Simultaneouslymoresignificanceshouldbeatachedtointellectualpropertyrightsduringthedevelopment of international standard projects.
