Monitoring and Characterization of Surface Water Pollution Around Abandoned Mining Areas

Abstract:Abandoned minesoftencontainavarietyofheavymetals thatcanseverelycontaminatesurrounding waterresources.This studyproposesamethodformonitoringandcharacterizingsurfacewaterpolutioninareassurroundingabandonedminingsitesWater sampleswerecolectedfromvariouslocationsaroundtheminingarea,andmultiplemonitoringpointswereestablishedtodetermineboth the concentration and types of metal pollutants,along with pH values of the water.Based on the monitoring data,the Nemerow Pollution Indexwascalulatedtovalatetedegreeofwaterpolutionndefineassessmentstandard.Tesudyalsosssedtheeposredoe andriskquotientofsurfacewater,andanalyedtheactivitycharacteristcsofdiferentmetalsResultsindcatevaryinglevelsofheavy metalpolltoncrossdoalndetseasosotoingdataevealedtatsfaceaterearthebadoedneisaricaly susceptible to contamination by arsenic and zinc,contributing to an overall acidic pH in the water.
