【Abstract】ObjectiveToanalyze thecharacteristicchanges intheserum levelsof intercellularadhesionmolecule-1 (ICAM-1),oxidized low-density lipoprotein(ox-LDL),andvascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)inpatients with type2diabetes melltus(T2DM)complicatedbyinsomnia,soas toexploretheirclinicalsignificance.MethodsAtotalof 108 T2DMpatients admitted toahospitalfrom May2O21 toMay2022 wereenrolled.According to thePitsburgh SleepQuality Index(PSQI) score,they were divided into non-insomnia group (PSQI≤7 points, n=53 )and insomnia group (PSQI> 7points, n=55 ).General clinical characteristics,glucose and lipid metabolism indexes,and serum levels of ICAM-1, ox-LDL,and VEGF were compared between the two groups,and correlations between PSQI total scoreand theabove-mentionedindicators were analyzed.ResultsThe insomnia groupshowedsignificantlyhigherlevelsof systolic bloodpressure (SBP),fasting insulin(FINS),homeostasismodelasessment-insulinresistance(HOMA-IR),glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c),and total cholesterol(TC)than the non-insomnia group( P<0. 05 ).SerumICAM-1(4 .83ng/mL vs (2 3.18±0.60ng/mL )and ox-LDL ( 14.02±4.75μg/mL vs 9.97±4.05μg/mL )levels in the insomnia group were significantly higher than thosein the non-insomnia group (all P<0.05 ),whereas the difference in VEGF levels between the two groups was not statistically significant ( P>0.05 ). Pearson correlation analysis revealed that the PSQI total score was positivelycorrelated withICAM-1( r=0.52 )and ox-LDL( r=0.46 )(all P<0.05 ).Conclusion Serum ICAM-1 and ox-LDL levelsare significantlyincreased inT2DMpatients with insomnia,sugestingthatinsomniamaypromote theoccurrenceand development of diabetic microvascular complications by exacerbating inflammatory responses and oxidative stress.
