Research on the Impact of Digital Transformation on the ESG of Heavy Polluting Enterprises： Based on the Perspective of Enterprise Innovation Level

Abstract：The digital economy drives the digital transformation of enterprises，enhancing their competitiveness. This study uses data from listed companies in China's Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share heavypolluting industries from 2O09 to 2023，constructs a digital transformation index using text analysis， and empirically tests the impact of digital transformation on the ESG performance of heavy-polluting enterprises. The research findings show that： improving the level of digital transformation of heavypolluting enterprises can increase their ESG rating scores， and digital transformation can enhance the ESG performance of heavy-polluting enterprises by boosting their innovation capabilities；heterogeneity analysis reveals that the promoting effect of digital transformation on corporate ESG is more significant in state-owned enterprises，as wellas technology-intensive and labor-intensive heavy-polluting enterprises；the conclusions remain valid after a series of robustness tests，including replacing independent variables，excluding the impact of the epidemic，clustering standard errors at the individual level，and using ten-year data. This study can provide theoretical and practical references for the formulation and implementation of sustainable development and green low-carbon transformation strategies for heavypolluting enterprises in the context of the digital economy.
