Abstract:The garden imagination serves as a crucial methodological framework for approaching Northrop Frye's thought from a spatial perspective. It reveals the cosmological orientation of Frye's theory while also reflecting his engagement with public dialogue and modes of self-expression. The spatial characteristics of Frye's mytho-archetype criticism, its centrifugal movement across literary history, the centripetal organization of archetypal clusters, and the displacement and communication of perceptual experience, highlight the integrative dynamic of internal formation and external dialogue. Frye's notion of a“Garrison mentality” simultaneously projects a symbolic structure of fortification to resist the wilderness and subtly absorbs the wilderness's primal vitality. The tension and synthesis form the spiritual foundation of the“third nature”,manifesting the dialectical interaction between Canadian literature and Frye's thought. Frye's educational practice exemplifies the profound alignment between his critical vision and life choices.Activities such as “educating imagination”and “Professor Frye” possess theoretical depth and public openness cultivating a reflective rhythm in stillness, emphasizaing the productivity of leisure and otium.Through analyzing three dimensions—the holism and synthesis of Frye's theory, its theoretical soil and internal dynamics, and the mutual substantiation of theory and public practice, this approach holds significant value for constructing a theoretical reading system where the theorist and theoretical thought coexist so as to revitalize the imaginative power and vitality of literary criticism.
