Effects of Attapulgite Soil Amendment on Maize Yield and SoilImprovement

Abstract: To explore efective measures for improving saline-alkali soil with atapulgite amendment,acontinuous 3-year analysiswasconductedfrom2022to2024toevaluatetheefectsofapplyingatapulgitesoilamendmentat40kg/hacombinedwith farmyardmanureat5Ot/ha,aswellasapplyingatapulgitesoilamendmentaloneat4Okg/ha,onmaizeyieldandsoil physicochemical properties.Resultsshowedthatthecombined treatmentofatapulgitesoilamendmentandfarmyardmanure performedbestinimprovingmaizeagronomictraits.Comparedwithconventionalfertilization,the3-yearaverageplantheightand stem diameter increased by 8.57% and 56.59% ,respectively,while bald ear length was significantly reduced and the number of kernelsperearincreased.Theyield-increasingefectwasmarkedlybeterthanothertreatments,witha3-yearaverageyield increase of 18.45% compared to thecontrol of conventional fertilization.Regarding soil improvement,applicationof soilamendment significantlyenhancedsoilqualitySoilmoisturevailablentrogen,totalphosphorus,availablephosphorus,totalpotassiu,an available potassium contents were all highest in the combined treatment, with 3-year average increases of 4.90% ,12.59 % , 25.00% 46.88% , 25.43% and 35.78% compared with conventional fertilization,among which available phosphorus content increased most significantly.Meanwhile,soil pH waseffectivelyreducedby 8.70% to 14.67% .Correlation analysisrevealed that maizeyield was significantlypositivelycorelatedwithsoilpsicochemicalproperesadsignificantlynegativelycorelatedwithsoilpHWiththe improvementofsoilqualitythenumberofsoilmicroorganismsalsoshowedanbviousupwardtrend.Inconclusion,aplicatinof soilamendmentnotonlyefectivelyhncedmaizeyieldbutalsosignifcantlyimprovedsoilpysicochemicalproperties,withthe combined treatment of attapulgite soil amendment at 40kg/ha and farmyard manure at 5O t/ha being particularly effective,providing theoretical reference for the improvement of saline-alkali land.
