Research Progress on the Olfactory Intervention of Alzheimer's Disease with Aromatic Plants at Home and Abroad

*SU Chang,JIN Hexian*

Abstract

With the intensification of population aging, the incidence of Alzheimer's disease is rising. As there is currentlyno cure for this disease and existingdrug therapies may carry side effects, the importance of non-pharmacological interventions has become increasingly prominent.Based ona database literature search strategy and screening through inclusion/exclusion criteria, this study systematically analysed domesticand international research onolfactory intervention forAlzheimer'sdisease usingaromatic plants,as well as the potential mechanisms of aromatherapy in its treatment. Research has found that volatile components from aromatic plants demonstrate significant eficacy in promoting cognitive function recovery, alleviatinganxiety symptoms, and improving sleep quality. Analytical results indicate that active compounds inaromatic plants can enhance effective neurotransmitter transmission by inhibiting cholinesterase activity. Finally, future research should expand the sample size and extend the research period, establish clear clinical guidelines, and deepen interdisciplinarymechanism research.
