Association between retinal structural changes and disease severity in patients with Parkinson's disease

[Abstract]ObjectiveThisstudyaimedtoinvestigateretinalstructuralchanges inpatients withParkinson’sdisease（PD） andtheircorelation withdiseaseseverityusing optcalcoherencetomogaphy（OCT）.MethodsInthiscro-sectionalstudy，43 patients withPD（86eyes）and43halthycontrols（86eyes）admitedtoXuanuHospital，CapitalMedicalUniversityetweFebruary2022andJune2O23wereenroled.Retinallayerthicknessinthecentral6mmdiameterofthemaculawasmeasuredusingOCT inallparticipats.DifrenesinetiallyestctureseteenteDandcotrolgoupseeomparedusingsts.easoncor relationanalysisdultipleliearregessoneeempldtoessthessociatiosetweenetialticnsaddiseaseduration， theMovementDisoderSciety-sponsoredevisionoftheunidarkinson'sdiseaseratigsalepartI（MD-UPDRS-I），adHo hn-Yahr（H-Y）staging.ResultsComparedwithcontrols，PDpatientsexhibitedreducedretinal thickness inthemacularregion， withsignificantthingobservedinspecificquadrantsoftheineruclearlayeroftherighteye.Pearsoncorrelationanalysissowed thathethicknessofspecificrgionswithintheretinalnerefiberayer，gangioncellayer，innerplexiformlayer，ineruclearyer andouterplexifomlayerwerenegativelycorelatedwithage，diseaseduration，MD-UPDR-Iscores，ndH-Ystage.Cocusion Retinal thinning is closely related to PD progressionand may have potential value for disease monitoring.
