Application of discrete choice experiments in service selection preference of palliative care services：a scope review

Abstract  Objective：To review systematically the related researches on the application of the Discrete choice experiment（DCE） in palliative care service preference and provided a reference for the development of personalized palliative care models.Methods：The Chinese and English databases were retrieved，and the time from database establishment to December 2023.The general characteristics，attributes and levels，analysis models and research results of included literature are summarized and analyzed.Results：A total of 20 papers were included in the study，including 18 foreign papers and 2 domestic papers.All of domestic research objects were patients with advanced cancer，foreign research subjects were various，including patients，caregivers and medical workers.In China，the DCE attributes included symptom management，the quality of life，length of life，medical and health services and costs，while in foreign countries，three areas were added on this basis，including clinical treatment，communication and social psychological change.Symptom management，length of life，and the quality of life were frequently used in palliative care service preference studies.Most of the existing DCE studies use a single logit model for data analysis，and the results were susceptible to the local limitation of a single model.Patients were more likely to receive round⁃the⁃clock services at home by professional palliative care providers.Conclusions：There are few related studies on DCE applied to preference for palliative care services in China at present.In the future，scientific and reasonable methods should be used to set attributes and levels，expand the scope of research objects and attributes and using two or more Logit models for data analysis to improve the effectiveness and credibility of DCE study.It is necessary to understand preferences for palliative care services from multiple perspectives and formulate home⁃based palliative care system with local characteristics.
